Buyer Beware
“RARE or EXOTIC COLOURED BRITISH BULLDOGS” BUYER BEWARE: CHECK ANKC REGULATIONS
Buyers intending on purchasing a Non Standard Coloured British Bulldog, coloured Black, Black and Tan, Tri-coloured, Blue or Dudley should be aware that these dogs do not comply with “The British Bulldog Breed Standard” World Wide.
When buying a British Bulldog Puppy it should be noted that the only acceptable colours according to The British Bulldog Breed Standard* as recognised by the Australian National Kennel Council ( ANKC ) are as follows: (excerpt from the British Bulldog Breed Standard.) * (The Breed Standard is the guide all reputable breeders use in their breeding program) Colour – The colour should be whole or smut (that is, a whole colour with a black mask or muzzle). The only colours (which should be brilliant and pure of their sort) are whole colours – viz.,(that is to say) brindles, reds, with their varieties, fawns, fallows* etc., white and also pied (i.e. a combination of white with any other of the foregoing colours). Dudley*, black and black and tan are extremely undesirable colours. *(Dudley refers to a dog or bitch with a liver coloured unpigmented nose, and also to body colouring as a whole) . * (Fallow is a colour between cream and fawn.) ANKC Regulations: ANKC Regulation 6.2.4(vii), effective from 1st July 2015 British Bulldog. Black, Black and Tan, Dudley or Bulldogs showing marked variations from those listed in the Breed Standard (Including those registered in other Countries) can only be registered on the Limited Register, flagged “not to be upgraded”. The Limited Register is for Dogs ineligible for exhibition at a conformation show and cannot be used for breeding. If your intention is to show at Dog Shows recognised by the ANKC or to breed with, then it must be registered on the ANKC Main Register These Non Standard Coloured dogs should be no more expensive than a correct coloured Bulldog, as that is what they are, a British Bulldog, or a cross-bred lookalike bred for the Dollar. Any registered breeder selling a Non Standard Coloured Bulldog on the Main Register, or stating it as a Standard colour, is in breach of the ANKC regulations. It will be argued that these colours are recognised in the United Kingdom and the USA but they are not recognised in any Country on official Kennel Club Breed Standards. A registered breeder would not allow a stud dog to be used on a bitch not complying with The Breed Standard or over a bitch not registered on the Main Register with Dogs NSW. All breeders registered with Dogs NSW are bound by its Code of Ethics and must display their Dogs NSW Registration Number when advertising a dog or puppy for sale whether for payment or not (PartX111-Code of Ethics) A breeder registered with Dogs NSW must display their membership details as: “Dogs NSW Member xxxxxxxxxx” Ask to see current membership details, or check with your State Body Please be wary when buying a puppy that it is registered with Dogs NSW or the equivalent organisation governed by the ANKC in other states, and that it is not a colour not recognised in The British Bulldog Breed Standard.
