Things to Look out for when Buying a British Bulldog
Buying a British Bulldog or a French Bulldog has become confusing and harder to understand because of all the “NEW” dog registries that have sprung up in recent years.
When you purchase a pup make sure the pup is registered with the Dogs Organisation in your State. This will be known as Dogs NSW. or Dogs Vic. etc. and is affiliated with the ANKC. the Australian National Kennel Council. Your breeder will have a Registration Number and is required by regulations to display this number in any advertisement. It must be displayed as Dogs NSW Member No. 2********* Ask for proof of membership.
THERE ARE TWO REGISTERS WITH THE ANKC
the MAIN REGISTER means that you can breed from and exhibit your pup at Conformation Dog Shows sanctioned by the ANKC Australia wide.
the LIMITED REGISTER is the register for dogs that are for pet only homes and will not be bred from.
Dogs registered on these two registers are dogs conforming with the WORLD WIDE BREED STANDARDS of the breed concerned, recognised by every official Kennel Council in every Country throughout the World.
Because of non registered breeders breeding Colours that do not conform to the Breed Standard and having to legitimise themselves, other dog registries have been formed. These registries also have a Main Register and a Limited Register so this is where it becomes confusing.
THESE REGISTRIES ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE ANKC OR DOGS NSW
Other Dog Registries being advertised on breeder’s websites and advertisements are: MDBA (Master Dog Breeders and Associates) ICBS (International Canine Breeders Studbook) ANB (Australian National Bulldog Club) formed in 2013 providing an ancestry registry for Australian Bulldogs, Southern Cross Bulldogs and Rare Coloured British Bulldogs. ABR (Australian All Breeds Registry) Business Registered October 2014 Australian Canine Registry Australian Bulldog Club of Australia. and there are probably more!
DO NOT BE FOOLED -- DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING.
At this time you might only be thinking that you would like a pet, so this issue does not affect you, but every breeder started off with their first dog and this love of their first dog becomes a passion in your life, so it is important to START RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
